UK House of Lords to propose mandatory CSAM detection software on smartphones
A cross-party alliance of UK peers and MPs is proposing mandatory software on all smartphones and tablets to prevent viewing and creation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including AI-generated content. Led by Conservative peer John Nash and Labour MP Jess Phillips, the campaign aims to require technology companies to install detection software on devices sold in Britain, with the capability to blur illegal images and prevent livestreaming of abuse. The proposal builds on the government's existing commitment to legislate against child sexual exploitation online.
