Due to severe RAM price hikes making DDR5 memory expensive, Intel and AMD are releasing new CPUs that support decade-old DDR4 RAM, allowing users to upgrade processors without purchasing costly new memory. Intel is bringing back DDR4 support to its LGA 1700 socket with new chips expected in early 2027, while AMD is relaunching its AM4 platform for DDR4 compatibility, offering consumers a more affordable upgrade path as DDR5 kit prices have doubled compared to DDR4 equivalents.
