Debug Project

Debug is a scientific initiative developing technology to release sterile male mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria to eliminate disease-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which kill more people than any other animal and spread dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya. The approach uses a naturally occurring bacteria rather than pesticides or genetic modification, and the sterile males cannot reproduce with wild females, gradually reducing the disease-carrying population. Debug is currently partnering with communities and governments to test and scale this method to help millions of people avoid mosquito-borne diseases.
