When the machine boots but the reply disappears

Mainbrella Engineering describes a common cloud infrastructure problem where a server successfully creates and boots a Linux machine, but the confirmation reply to the client disappears, making it indistinguishable from a failed request. To solve this, they implemented a system using Cloudflare Durable Objects to serialize admission decisions at the account level, ensuring that concurrent requests are processed in order and preventing resource conflicts while allowing machines to boot in parallel after the reservation is made.
