Side Project's Lab has created the PD-64, a compact USB Power Delivery replacement for the Commodore 64's original power supply that uses a class D amplifier to generate the required 9V AC at 50/60 Hz instead of a large transformer. The device accepts 12V from a standard USB PD adapter and delivers 5V DC and galvanically isolated 9V AC with comprehensive protection features, while the design files are available on GitHub though the full schematic is not public.
