IBM Spins Off the First Pure-Play Quantum Chip Foundry
IBM has established Anderon, America's first pure-play quantum chip foundry, backed by $1 billion each from the U.S. Department of Commerce and IBM itself through a CHIPS Act investment. The $2 billion quantum package distributed across nine companies positions IBM's 300mm superconducting silicon foundry as the centerpiece of U.S. quantum industrial policy, while providing smaller investments in competing quantum approaches like trapped ion and photonic technologies to hedge technology risk.
