Goodebye Forever Probably: Why I’m leaving developer relations

A developer relations professional is leaving the field after five and a half years, citing a disconnect between the long-term nature of genuine developer education and the short-term, measurable metrics that business leaders demand for success. While the role initially seemed ideal—combining technical skills with teaching and community building—the author found that the difficulties, including arbitrary performance measurements and the negativity inherent in constant internet engagement, ultimately outweighed the rewarding aspects of mentoring and networking.
