Claude Is Not Your Architect. Stop Letting It Pretend

AI systems like Claude are being inappropriately used as system architects, despite their fundamental inability to make context-aware trade-offs or push back on ideas—skills that define real architecture. Once an AI designs a system architecture and breaks it into Jira tickets, engineers become mere implementers of generic, context-blind designs that often ignore team constraints, organizational realities, and actual project requirements. The danger lies in AI's pathological agreeableness: it validates ideas and produces confident-sounding designs without understanding the specific context, constraints, or judgment calls that separate good architecture from technically sound but impractical systems.
