BZip3 is a compression tool that improves upon its predecessor BZip2 by offering higher compression ratios and better performance through advanced algorithms including context mixing entropy coding and Burrows-Wheeler transforms. In a benchmark compressing Perl source code archives, BZip3 achieved superior compression results, with its best configuration producing a file of 546 MB compared to BZip2's 3.4 GB, though with longer compression times.
