AI Outperforms Law Professors in Stanford Law Study

A Stanford Law School study found that law professors overwhelmingly preferred AI-generated answers to legal questions over responses written by their fellow instructors, with AI winning 75% of head-to-head evaluations across nearly 3,000 comparisons. The research, which tested AI's ability to provide nuanced legal reasoning rather than simple factual recall, also found that professors flagged AI responses as pedagogically harmful only 3.5% of the time compared to 12% for peer-written answers. The findings suggest AI could effectively support legal education by providing high-quality, on-demand tutoring that complements classroom instruction.
