# Summary Video game consoles have historically offered web browsers as affordable gateways to the internet for non-technical users, with early examples including the CD-i's rudimentary CD-Online service (1995) and Sega Saturn's PlanetWeb Browser via the Net Link modem (1996). These console browsers were designed to work within the technical limitations of television-based systems and provided insight into both the early web's development and console user interface design. As personal computers and mobile devices became more established, interest in console browsers declined.
