Virtual Oxide Labs: Emulating a Full Oxide Rack
Oxide has developed Voxel (Virtual OXidE Labs), a software emulation stack built on illumos in Rust that allows the company to test its rack-scale hardware and control plane software without requiring access to physical racks. The emulator provides high fidelity by running unmodified stock Oxide software and can replicate diverse customer networking topologies, including sled virtualization, BGP networking, and simulated microcontrollers. This solution addresses the challenge of limited physical rack availability while enabling comprehensive testing of hardware and software combinations.
