Running Windows desktop tests from Linux with disposable VMs
Developers can now test Windows desktop applications from Linux using disposable virtual machines, solving a major infrastructure challenge. The solution treats Windows machines like mobile devices—claiming them for individual tests and discarding them afterward—rather than treating them as persistent servers. The system uses a Kubernetes controller to manage a pool of Windows VMs on Google Compute Engine, with Linux pods running test code that communicates with the VMs through automation tools like WebdriverIO and Appium.
