Researchers have developed a method to convert a Gemtek W1700K Wi-Fi 7 router into a wideband software-defined radio receiver capable of capturing raw 14-bit IQ signals at up to 320 Msps. The router's MediaTek MT7996 radio captures the signals and streams them over 10 GbE to a Linux host, which displays live spectrum and waterfall visualizations in a browser with receiver controls. The custom firmware runs entirely on the router's hardware without any proprietary MediaTek code, enabling flexible tuning across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands with variable sample rates and real-time spectrum analysis.
