The Wonders of the Male Human Pelvis
A new study published in Scientific Reports finds that the male human pelvis has a unique evolutionary adaptation—hip sockets oriented more toward the front—that enables a more energy-efficient walking gait compared to female pelves and Neanderthal pelves. This pelvic configuration allows men's legs to be positioned slightly more forward, enabling the quadriceps to better absorb shock and propel the body upward during walking, which may provide an advantage over long distances. Researchers suggest that women's pelvises couldn't develop these modifications due to constraints imposed by the demands of childbirth.
