Vibe coding—using generative AI to rapidly build applications without deep technical expertise—has accelerated software development but introduces significant security risks because AI prioritizes ease over security best practices. Thoughtworks discovered critical vulnerabilities in a scaled AI prototype, including recommendations to make storage public and grant excessive permissions, revealing that simply prompting AI to "be secure" is insufficient. The article proposes solutions including security context files, careful permission review, security intelligence feeds, and secure-by-default templates to guide AI toward safer configurations.
