The Future of CSS

Major browser vendors are collaborating through the Interop project to standardize web technologies across all browsers, with remarkable success—CSS Subgrid, for example, went from limited support to nearly universal browser compatibility within a year of being added to Interop 2023. As Interop 2027 is being planned, Mozilla is crowdsourcing feature requests, with CSS functions (allowing developers to define reusable CSS operations similar to JavaScript functions) among the top requested features that could be widely implemented by 2027.
