The Double Headed Stack Allocator
A stack allocator (or bump allocator) is a high-performance memory allocation technique where allocation is just an integer addition operation and deallocation involves resetting a single pointer, making it extremely fast for transient, short-lived memory needs. The author implemented this approach while working on animation blending for a cancelled game at Surreal Software around 2010, dramatically improving performance by eliminating the overhead of traditional dynamic memory allocation for temporary frame-based allocations.
