A hobby OS developer successfully ported Wine to their custom operating system called Astral, enabling it to run Windows games like Cogmind by implementing 32-bit support through WoW64 mode and resolving graphics rendering issues with OpenGL and EGL. The project required significant kernel modifications, including Local Descriptor Table support for running 32-bit code on a 64-bit system, and debugging Wine's internal functions to fix issues like scoresheet uploads. Other Windows applications and games including FTL and partial Steam support have also been successfully run on the system.
