Rampart is an open-source browser-based tool that filters personally identifiable information (PII) before it's sent to remote servers, using a combination of rule-based pattern matching and a small language model to detect and redact names, addresses, and structured data like Social Security numbers. All processing happens locally on the user's device at the moment of typing, eliminating the need to trust remote servers or download large AI models, with a model size of just 14.7MB and processing latency of 3.9 milliseconds.
