Python JIT project was asked to pause development
Python's Steering Council has requested a pause on new JIT (just-in-time compiler) development in CPython until a formal Standards Track PEP is authored and accepted by the community. The request halts new features, optimizations, and performance work on the experimental JIT compiler, though bugfixes and security fixes may continue, citing the need to formally address outstanding questions about long-term maintenance, security, compatibility, and impact on redistributors. The Council emphasized this is not a criticism of the JIT developers' work but rather a call to follow proper governance processes before the JIT becomes an officially supported feature.
