PopVax's open-source COVID-19 vaccine candidate PVX-001 has begun Phase 1 human trials in Melbourne, Australia, with 14 participants dosed as of October 2026 and no serious adverse events reported so far. The vaccine is designed to provide broad protection against current and future SARS-CoV-2 variants and was developed using PopVax's proprietary computational protein design, mRNA delivery technology, and manufacturing processes. Once the trial concludes, the vaccine will be made open-source, and the safety data will help accelerate clinical development of PopVax's other vaccine candidates for diseases including rabies, hepatitis C, tuberculosis, and Streptococcus A.
