AI-ready biological data: $1.8B global commitment
An international collaboration led by Biohub, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health has committed $1.8 billion to generate AI-ready biological data that will enable predictive models of disease. Major tech companies including Google DeepMind, Isomorphic Labs, and Meta are contributing $300 million to the Virtual Biology Initiative, which aims to create standardized datasets and technologies for building computational models of cells and biological systems. This open-access resource will accelerate scientific discovery by allowing researchers to conduct experiments digitally and develop new prevention and treatment strategies for diseases.
