KDE Plasma will remove X11 support in version 6.8, releasing in approximately five months, marking the end of a 15-year transition to Wayland. Internal metrics show over 95% of Plasma 6.6 users already run Wayland, with X11-specific code paths being eliminated while XWayland support for legacy X11 applications remains available. The change will enable performance improvements and new features through a single Wayland code path, though users experiencing Wayland issues are encouraged to report problems before the final X11-supported release (Plasma 6.7).
