PostHog plans to train its own AI models using customer data to improve features like session replay analysis and enable new products like PostHog Desktop, with the data being anonymized and training conducted in-house rather than through third-party providers. The company is defaulting users into the program (except those in the EU or with data-protection agreements) and will begin training on June 29, 2026, while allowing users to opt out anytime through their organization settings. PostHog justified the opt-out approach by arguing that an opt-in model would not generate sufficient data to effectively train the models needed to improve its products.
