Following the release of Claude Mythos—an AI model hyped as a game-changer in cybersecurity capable of automated zero-day exploitation—the industry's panic may be overblown. While Mythos shows incremental improvements over previous models in vulnerability detection and cyber-range testing, it still lacks realistic enterprise security features like active defenders and triggers security alerts noisily, and older "discovered" vulnerabilities are typically just previously overlooked code rather than genuinely difficult finds. The real impact of Mythos lies primarily in making exhaustive vulnerability searches scalable for well-funded organizations rather than representing a fundamental breakthrough in AI-assisted cyberattacks.
