Scientists demonstrated that brain organoids can process and relay signals corresponding to Braille letters with up to 83% accuracy, marking progress toward developing energy-efficient biohybrid computers. The organoids, containing approximately 10,000 neurons each, were connected to sensors and multielectrode arrays that converted tactile Braille data into electrical signals, with teams of three organoids performing significantly better than individual ones. This breakthrough shows it's possible to connect artificial sensors to biological neural systems, potentially opening a pathway to computers that match the brain's remarkable energy efficiency.
