Meta has filed a patent for a facial recognition system that would automatically record people and generate video highlights, raising privacy concerns given the company's Ray-Ban smart glasses already have a reputation for surreptitious recording. The patent shows the system would identify people and record them without explicit consent prompts, merely asking users afterward if they want to view the highlights. While patents don't guarantee implementation, the filing is particularly troubling given Meta's previous issues with inadequate privacy protections when handling sensitive video data.
