Apache Sedona released SedonaDB 0.4 with GPU-accelerated spatial joins that leverage gaming GPU ray tracing cores to outperform high-end data center GPUs like the H100, achieving up to 5.93x speedup on heavy joins. The new RayBooster extension uses a specialized storage layout, unified indexing, and a universal predicate engine to enable efficient spatial query processing on consumer-grade GPUs like the RTX 3090. The feature can be enabled with a single command on machines with NVIDIA GPUs and is available through an official Docker image.
