LG smart TVs caught logging audio with screen off and snooping on local devices

LG smart TVs are continuously scanning home networks, collecting data on connected devices, recording microphone audio even when appearing to be powered off, and logging viewing habits through Automated Content Recognition, with this data fed to LG's advertising division. Testing by Gamers Nexus and security researchers revealed the TVs map neighboring Wi-Fi networks, gather location data, and continue capturing and storing voice input locally during standby mode, uploading it once network access is restored. Researchers also discovered remote code execution vulnerabilities and recommended disconnecting LG TVs from the internet entirely, using external streaming devices instead.
