I turned a $80 RK3562 Android tablet into a Debian Linux workstation

A developer successfully converted an $80 Doogee U10 Android tablet powered by the Rockchip RK3562 chip into a full Debian Linux workstation by reverse-engineering the hardware and creating a bootable SD card image. The custom build, called rkdebian, supports most tablet features including the display, touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, and even the NPU for local AI inference, while allowing users to boot back into stock Android by simply removing the SD card. The project was built from scratch without official documentation or manufacturer support, using AI assistance and open-source repositories.
