Grit: Rewriting Git in Rust with Agents

Scott Chacon used AI agents to rewrite Git from scratch in Rust as a library-based, memory-safe implementation that passes over 99% of Git's comprehensive test suite. The new project, called Grit, aims to address limitations of the original C Git by providing a reentrant, linkable, and modular core library suitable for long-running processes, though it currently remains untested in real-world use and has performance issues that need addressing.
