EU Open Sources Ten-Year Network Development Planning Tools
The EU has open-sourced network planning tools through the Open-TYNDP project, a collaboration between Open Energy Transition and ENTSO-E, which aims to integrate open-source PyPSA models into the Ten-Year Network Development Plan for greater transparency and stakeholder participation. The model is currently under active development, has completed benchmarking against the 2024 TYNDP cycle, and is preparing to align with the 2026 cycle while addressing existing gaps in scenario building and cost-benefit analysis tools. The project seeks to demonstrate the viability of open-source frameworks for energy planning both in Europe and globally.
