The Browser Choice Alliance, representing multiple browser developers, accuses Microsoft of using its dominant Windows operating system position to unfairly push users toward its Edge browser through tactics like preventing uninstallation, showing misleading prompts, ignoring default browser choices, and restricting competitor access to preinstallation deals. The group calls on Microsoft to immediately allow fair browser competition, eliminate dark patterns that discourage switching browsers, restore one-click default browser changes, and stop using OS updates to redirect users back to Edge. These practices, the alliance argues, restrict user freedom and innovation in an increasingly important era where PCs serve as critical access points for productivity and AI applications.
