Commodore 64 released September 1, 1982

The Commodore 64 launched on September 1, 1982, as the first computer with 64 kilobytes of memory to sell for under $600, quickly becoming the best-selling computer of all time with approximately 10.6 to 12.3 million units sold. Its success stemmed from affordable pricing combined with strong capabilities, and despite Commodore's expectation of a three-year shelf life, the C-64 continued selling roughly 700,000 units annually through the 1980s and remained viable into the 1990s.
