The system makes scraping computationally expensive at scale while minimally impacting legitimate users, serving as a temporary measure until more sophisticated bot detection methods can distinguish between human browsers and automated scrapers. The solution requires JavaScript to function, which administrators acknowledge is necessary because AI companies' scraping practices have fundamentally changed the economics of web hosting.
