Starting August 1, California's DROP (Delete Request Opt-out Platform) becomes enforceable, requiring registered data brokers to honor consumer requests to stop selling personal information within 45 days. The online tool allows California residents to submit a single deletion request instead of contacting hundreds of companies individually, with approximately 350,000 residents already signed up since January. Cal Privacy has already fined 12 data brokers tens of thousands of dollars each for failing to register in the system.
