An explanation of our search results

Google addressed concerns about offensive search results appearing when users searched for the word "Jew" by explaining that their ranking algorithm automatically determines results based on relevance factors, and the word "Jew" is linguistically charged because it is often used in anti-Semitic contexts, whereas related terms like "Judaism" or "Jewish" produce more appropriate results. Google stated that their search results are generated objectively and cannot be manually adjusted based on petitions, and they apologized for the disturbing nature of the experience while directing users to resources from the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish Internet Association.
