500B Tokens Later: Letting AI Agents Decompile a First-Person Shooter
Over three months, a team used AI agents orchestrated through GitHub and Discord to decompile a popular first-person shooter game into C++ code, consuming 500 billion tokens in the process. The project employed multiple AI models (primarily Claude Sonnet 5, Opus, and others) running as autonomous agents that managed progress through GitHub issues, communicated via Discord, and used Hex-Rays' IDA tool for disassembly and decompilation. While the initial month saw 4 agents successfully decompile about 80% of the game, the focus was ultimately on demonstrating effective AI orchestration and infrastructure optimization rather than the decompilation itself.
