The xsnow desktop application for Linux contains hidden "protestware" that displays Ukrainian flags with significantly higher frequency when the user's language is set to Russian, which a user complained violates Debian's principles. While the complaint was dismissed as not violating the Debian Free Software Guidelines (which only address licensing, not software behavior), some Debian developers acknowledged that hidden behavior changes based on locale settings could be problematic for the distribution. The maintainer has not indicated plans to remove the feature, and the issue appears unlikely to result in changes to the Debian package.
