WSL 2 is getting faster Windows file system access

WSL 2 has received a significant performance improvement through a May 2026 update that gives each virtio device its own dedicated DMA memory pool, eliminating contention that previously affected file I/O when multiple devices shared the same buffer. This optimization particularly benefits file-heavy cross-OS workflows where code on Windows drives is built or compiled in Linux environments. Users can enable this improvement by setting `virtiofs=true` in their WSL configuration and updating to the latest WSL kernel.
