Who does Anubis actually stop?

A developer created a tool called anubis-fetch that easily circumvents Anubis, an HTTP proxy designed to block AI scrapers through proof-of-work challenges, by solving the cryptographic puzzles natively or using Chromium. The tool demonstrates that Anubis fails to stop sophisticated bots while imposing a "regressive tax" on regular humans, especially those with limited devices or using non-JavaScript clients like screen readers and text browsers, without meaningfully protecting against determined adversaries.
