WebMCP: Teaching Your Website to Talk to AI Agents

WebMCP is a proposed web standard that allows websites to declare their capabilities as structured tools that AI agents can directly call, rather than agents having to guess functionality by reading HTML and screenshots. Developed by Google and Microsoft, it replaces the fragile approach of screen-scraping with a clean interface—for example, a restaurant site would register a "book_table" tool that specifies exactly what parameters it needs, making interactions stable across design changes. The standard is currently in trial in Chrome and takes about ten minutes to implement for a basic tool.
