Researchers ran experiments with AI agent swarms in Minecraft and Mindustry to study multi-agent dynamics and emergent behaviors, building an open-sourced harness for long-running agents. In one experiment, 50 agents in a survival Minecraft world spontaneously formed a hierarchical pseudo-government with appointed leaders, resource rationing systems, written rules, and organized division of labor over a 3-hour period. The research addresses a critical AI alignment challenge by examining how swarms of agents develop complex coordination patterns and social structures in practice.
