The US military has disabled advertising trackers on troops' phones and computers following reports that commercially available location data was used to track American forces in the Middle East. The Air Force, Army, and Special Operations Command disclosed they had disabled advertising identifiers on various devices, with some branches taking action as early as 2021. Senator Ron Wyden and others are pressing for a broader investigation into whether the military has adequately addressed security risks posed by the location data trade.
