Unsolved Problem by Fields Medalist Breached by Two High School Students

Two high school students, Aayush Bathija and Prince Rohatgi, solved an open problem in Lorentzian polynomial theory—a field pioneered by Fields Medalist June Huh—by extending prior work on bounded coefficient ratios to polynomials of arbitrary degree. Working under UCLA postdoctoral researcher Daniel Soskin's guidance and using AI assistants Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol for computational exploration and proof generation, the students published their 75-page paper on arXiv, demonstrating how AI can make advanced mathematics more accessible to pre-university researchers.
