UIUC AI Teaching Assistant

A University of Illinois team created an AI teaching assistant for Electrical Engineering that uses 11 models running in parallel to provide multi-media question-answering and search capabilities with a median 2-second response time. The system incorporates reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) using a dataset created by engineering students, and is evaluated using expert-written QA pairs assessed by GPT-3, though the developers acknowledge limitations in having GPT-3 evaluate its own outputs.
