Typst Makes Big Strides

Typst, a Rust-based document typesetting system designed as a potential LaTeX replacement, released version 0.15 in June 2026 with significant new features including support for variable fonts, MathML, and multiple bibliographies. Variable fonts, which contain all typographic variations in a single file rather than separate files, offer space savings and greater design flexibility through customizable axes that control aspects like font weight and styling. Typst is free and open-source software licensed under Apache 2.0.
