Trees to Flows and Back: Unifying Decision Trees and Diffusion Models

Researchers have unified decision trees and diffusion models by establishing a mathematical correspondence between them, revealing a shared optimization principle called Global Trajectory Score Matching. The work introduces two practical applications: TreeFlow, which generates tabular data with 2× computational speedup, and DSMTree, a distillation method that transfers decision tree logic into neural networks while maintaining comparable performance.
