The Zulip Foundation

Kandra Labs, the company behind the open-source Zulip team chat platform, is being donated to a newly created nonprofit Zulip Foundation, with founder Tim Abbott and three senior team members departing to join Anthropic. The foundation will serve as the independent steward of Zulip, formalizing the project's commitment to sustainability while Kandra Labs continues to operate as a business under the foundation's ownership. This governance structure, similar to models used by Mozilla and Wikipedia, aims to provide long-term stability and enable charitable fundraising to support Zulip's mission.
